Excellent fundamental research and strong engineering sciences are the strengths of ETH Zurich. The University is currently implementing a comprehensive reform of its curricula in line with the Bologna Declaration. At the same time it is successfully strengthening its strategic positions in Life Science and Medical Engineering, Computational Science, Information Science and Financial Science.
ETH Zurich was founded in 1855 as a polytechnic by the Swiss Confederation. It has approximately 13,000 students. Its annual budget amounts to CHF 1.2 billion with a staff count equivalent to around 6,000 full-time positions

in addition to the College of Humanities, EPF Lausanne is well on its way to becoming a top-level international educational and research institution.
Founded in 1853 with eleven students as the Ecole spéciale de Lausanne, it gained national standing as a Federal Institute of Technology (EPF) in 1969. Today more than 6,000 people study at the institution. It has a budget of CHF 600 million and 3,100 full-time equivalent posts.
